How to connect to Wi-Fi or Hotspot on your laptop.

General Connection Information
• You must have an Internet connection to be able to get to the SSYAF Virtual Desktop environment (details in the next section).

• Your SSYAF issued laptop will automatically connect to the “Stanford-Staff” wireless network whenever you’re in any SSYAF offices.

• Wherever possible and feasible, please use a Wi-Fi network to connect to the Internet, including at home.

To connect to a Wi-Fi network (such as your home  Wireless Network) on your laptop,

1: Click the Wireless Network settings in the task tray, then chick on the > icon and choose the trusted wireless network to connect to (you may need a password to connect to the Wireless Network).

Connecting using your iPhone Wi-Fi Hotspot

1. On your iPhone, go to Settings, Personal Hotspot. (If you don’t see the option for Personal Hotspot, select “Cellular”, then Personal Hotspot).

2. Turn your Hotpot on by clicking on Allow Others To  Join and note the Password on the screen (you can change the password from this screen by selecting the password).

3. On your laptop, click on the wireless network connection icon at the bottom right of your screen, then choose the Wi-Fi network of your Personal Hotspot. The network name will be the name of your iPhone (e.g. Jim’s iPhone). Enter the password for your Personal Hotspot when prompted.

*As mentioned in the previous section, please use a Wi-Fi connection (main office or home Wi-Fi) wherever possible and feasible. The mobile hotspot is mainly to ensure you have Internet connectivity anywhere in the community where Wi-Fi is not available.

Privacy
When connecting and working anywhere outside the SSYAF office, consider the privacy risks of other people having access to your laptop, or seeing your screen - • Ensure your laptop is physically secure at all times

• When you are working, be mindful that other people could see what is on your screen, including Protected Health Information. If you have any privacy concerns, move somewhere where your screen can’t be seen.

• Use the “Windows Key+L” shortcut to lock your workstation before leaving it unoccupied.
